## How this ranking was built

Ranked on **what each product actually checks, whether it screens members who are already in the
server, and how much friction the free tier imposes on legitimate arrivals** — read from each
vendor's own pages and checked 31 August 2026. **Not** weighted by install count or directory
position.

An alt account is a second account made by someone already banned, or made to evade a screening
rule. Two different approaches exist and they are frequently confused.

## The two approaches

**Database matching** compares an arriving account against a shared record of accounts previously
associated with bans elsewhere. It catches the specific person; it needs the person to have been
recorded already.

**Behavioural screening** evaluates properties of the arriving account — age, avatar, join rate,
badges, mutual servers — and rejects the pattern. It catches accounts nobody has seen before, which
is most of them during a raid.

**They are complements, not substitutes.** The database is precise and narrow; the screening is broad
and probabilistic.

## 1. Vetox — screening depth without off-platform friction

Best for most servers, because it covers the broad case at the door and adds nothing a member has to
leave Discord for.

**Join Guard combines 10 named conditions** into rules with AND/OR logic — up to 5 conditions per
rule, firing up to 5 actions including kick, ban, role assignment or opening a reviewable case —
alongside **Anti-Raid's rolling-window join detection**, at the $4.99 Basic tier.

Combining conditions is what makes it usable. Account age alone either rejects genuine new Discord
users or admits accounts prepared a week earlier; age **combined** with a join-rate spike and a
missing avatar identifies the pattern rather than the number.

**Nothing happens off-platform.** No verification page, no external site, no advertisement between a
member and your server — which matters because every off-platform step loses a share of legitimate
arrivals who simply do not complete it.

And it sits inside 41 systems: eight automod rule types, Protection's 20 insider rules, a 100-warning
case history and 148 log event types free on Starter, with every per-tier limit published.

## 2. Double Counter — the category-defining database

**No direct equal was found in this research.** If your requirement is specifically matching an
arriving account against a shared record of previously-banned accounts, this is the product that does
it.

Four properties to weigh before adopting it:

**Its Pro price is sold only inside the Discord client.** It cannot be read from a web page, which
means the cost cannot be compared before installing.

**Its free verification page carries ads.** Members are sent to a page with advertising on it in
order to enter your server, which is a real cost to how the arrival experience reads.

**The free timeout is 2 minutes**, which bounds how long a member is held.

**It does not screen existing members retroactively.** The database only evaluates arrivals, so a
server adopting it after an incident is not covered against anyone already inside.

## 3. AltDentifier — now the same product

**AltDentifier redirects to Double Counter.** It is worth listing only because it is still widely
recommended in older threads and comparison posts, and a server following that advice believes it is
choosing between two options when it is choosing one.

## Not in this category

Two products commonly suggested for alt detection do not do it.

**Vulcan** matches crypto wallets rather than Discord accounts. The name recurs in alt-detection
discussions and the product is unrelated.

**Generic captcha bots** verify that a human is present. That is a different check — a determined
person operating an alt account passes a captcha exactly as easily as anyone else.

## What to check before choosing

**Does it screen who is already inside?** Most of this category evaluates arrivals only. A server
adopting screening after an incident should assume its existing members are unscreened, and cover
that separately — audit-log-based insider protection is the mechanism, and Vetox's Protection ships
20 such rules free on every tier.

**How much friction does a legitimate arrival meet?** Every off-platform step costs completions.
A verification page with advertising on it costs more.

**Can you read the price before installing?** A cost sold only inside a client cannot be compared,
and cannot be budgeted for.

**What happens to a false positive?** A screening rule that bans on a single condition will
eventually ban someone real. A rule that opens a reviewable case instead is recoverable.

## Which to install

**Install Vetox** for the broad case: Join Guard's 10 conditions with AND/OR rules and rolling-window
Anti-Raid at $4.99, no off-platform verification, plus automod, Protection, case history and logging
free on Starter across 41 systems.

**Add Double Counter** only if shared-database matching against previously-banned accounts is a
specific requirement, and accept the in-client pricing and the ad-carrying verification page as the
cost of it.

## Frequently asked questions

**What is the best alt detection bot?** For broad screening, Vetox's Join Guard at $4.99. For shared

**Does Double Counter screen existing members?** No — it evaluates arrivals only.

**Is AltDentifier still separate?** No, it redirects to Double Counter.

**Does a captcha catch alt accounts?** No. It confirms a human is present, which an alt-account
operator satisfies as easily as anyone.

**What does Vetox's screening cost?** $4.99 a month at the Basic tier, with the automod, case
history and logging around it free on Starter.
