# The most popular Discord bots, and what each is actually for

> No independent measure of Discord bot installs exists. Discord's own App Directory, the closest thing, ranks MEE6 21st in Moderation and Tools.

---
There is no independent measurement of Discord bot installs. Every server count published anywhere
is submitted by the vendor. The closest thing to an authoritative ranking is Discord's own App
Directory ordering, and on 30 August 2026 it placed carl-bot 3rd, Arcane 4th, Dyno 5th and **MEE6
21st** in Moderation and Tools.

That last number is the one worth sitting with. MEE6 is the bot most people meet first and the name
every English listicle leads with. Discord's own catalogue does not surface it first, and the bot
ranked immediately above it does one thing: colour roles.

## How popularity is measured here, and what it is not

Every ranking below is **Discord's own ordering of its Moderation and Tools category**, read on 30
August 2026. It is not our ranking, we did not weight it, and we did not reorder it.

Three things the ordering is **not** weighted by:

- **Not quality.** Discord orders by its own signals, not by whether a bot is well built.
- **Not our editorial opinion.** Where we have a verdict, it is labelled as one and kept separate.
- **Not a vendor's self-reported server count.** Those numbers exist and they are not comparable —
they are typed into a form by the vendor.

Why this source and not a bot list site: everything in Discord's directory is Discord-verified by
definition, the ordering is Discord's rather than vendor-submitted, and the catalogue is public.
Bot-listing sites rank largely by votes, which measures how hard a bot pushes its members to vote
for it. That is a real signal about the vendor, but it is not adoption.

**Scope.** Discord counts **10,121 apps in Moderation and Tools** alone, plus 2,782 in Social,
1,597 in Games and 1,240 in Utilities. What follows is the top of one category, not a census of
Discord bots.

## Which Discord bots are the most popular?

Discord's first 25 in Moderation and Tools, in its order:

| # | Bot | What it is |
| --- | --------------- | ---------------------------------------------- |
| 1 | FlaviBot | Multipurpose moderation and utilities |
| 2 | TTS Bot | Text-to-speech in voice channels |
| 3 | carl-bot | Reaction roles, logging, tag scripting |
| 4 | Arcane | Leveling, with a moderation suite attached |
| 5 | Dyno | Multipurpose moderation and automod |
| 6 | Bloxlink | Roblox account verification and role binds |
| 7 | DISBOARD.org | Server discovery and bumping |
| 8 | Mimu | Autoresponder scripting, economy, pets |
| 9 | Maki.gg | Multipurpose with AI moderation on paid tiers |
| 10 | Make it a Quote | Image generator, one job |
| 11 | Ticket Tool | Ticketing, and nothing else |
| 12 | Invite Tracker | Invite attribution and retention analytics |
| 13 | Koya | Multipurpose, seven free alert platforms |
| 14 | ProBot | Multipurpose with free text and voice leveling |
| 15 | Loritta | Brazilian multipurpose with a full economy |
| 16 | Appy | Applications and forms |
| 17 | Confessions | Anonymous posting |
| 18 | Phoenix | Multipurpose, installable to a user account |
| 19 | Color-Chan | Colour roles, and nothing else |
| 20 | DraftBot | French multipurpose with a dashboard |
| 21 | MEE6 | Leveling, moderation, welcome, alerts |
| 22 | Tickets v2 | Ticketing |
| 23 | Security | Anti-nuke and anti-raid |
| 24 | Giveaway Boat | Giveaways with deep entry requirements |
| 25 | Statbot | Time-series server analytics |

Two patterns come straight off that list.

**Narrow bots do extremely well.** Make it a Quote generates images. Color-Chan assigns colour
roles. Confessions posts anonymously. TTS Bot reads messages aloud. Four of Discord's top twenty
in a category called _Moderation and Tools_ do exactly one thing, and none of them moderates
anything. A bot that solves one problem completely gets installed more often than a bot that solves
nine problems adequately.

**The English listicle consensus is not Discord's consensus.** DISBOARD, Bloxlink, Mimu, Maki,
Loritta, Appy, Phoenix and DraftBot all sit above MEE6. DraftBot is a French all-in-one with its
own dashboard and full documentation, ranked 20th, and it is absent from essentially every
English-language "best Discord bots" article.

## Why does MEE6 rank 21st?

Two answers, and both are worth knowing before you install it.

The first is arithmetic: the directory is large and the category is broad, so a bot can be
enormous and still sit 21st behind twenty others that are also enormous. [MEE6's own listing on
discordbotlist.com](https://discordbotlist.com/bots/mee6) reports 21.5 million servers. That is a
vendor-submitted figure and nobody has checked it, but nothing in the directory ordering
contradicts the claim that MEE6 is installed on a very large number of servers.

The second is what those installs actually get. **MEE6's own 37-row feature comparison marks the
free column with a cross on 31 rows** — read from [its pricing page](https://mee6.xyz/en/premium)
and confirmed against [its own support-portal article](https://help.mee6.xyz/en/articles/710936-mee6-free-vs-premium-plans-comparison).
XP and Levels is a cross. So are Moderation, Welcome messages, Custom commands, Reaction Roles and
Giveaways. What a free MEE6 server gets is Search anything, Achievements, Starboard and one timed
message.

List pricing is **$11.99 per month, $49.99 per year or $89.99 lifetime**, per server. A site-wide
50% promotion was running on 30 August 2026 showing $5.99, $24.99 and $44.99 — the monthly figure
is a **first month**, and it renews at $11.99.

So MEE6 is popular and MEE6 is expensive, and both facts are true at once. That is the whole reason
["MEE6 alternatives"](/blog/mee6-alternatives) is one of the highest-volume queries in this niche.

## What each of the most popular bots is actually for

Install counts do not tell you which bot to pick. Here is the same field arranged by what it does
and what it costs, every price read from the vendor's own page on 30 August 2026.

| Bot | Best at | Free tier | Paid |
| ---------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------- |
| [carl-bot](https://carl.gg/) | Reaction roles and tag scripting | Reaction roles, 8 automod filters, ~24 log types | $7.99/mo for 1 server, $24.99 for 5 |
| [Arcane](https://arcane.bot/premium) | Leveling | Message and reaction XP, **15 role rewards** at 1 per level | $7.00/mo, $75/yr per server |
| [Dyno](https://dyno.gg/premium) | Multipurpose moderation | 13 features, capped rather than disabled | $4.99/mo Standard, $6.99 Premium |
| [ProBot](https://probot.io/en/premium) | Free leveling with voice XP | Tickets with transcripts, **text and voice levels 0–100** | $5/mo Tier 1, $10/mo Tier 2 |
| [Ticket Tool](https://tickettool.xyz/premium) | Ticket configuration depth | **Unlimited panels**, manual transcripts, 5-question forms | $7.99/mo, $66/yr |
| [Koya](https://koya.gg/en/premium/server) | Free social alerts | **7 alert platforms free**, 3 ticket panels, 10 level roles | €4.99/mo Premium, €11.99/mo Pro |
| [Bloxlink](https://blox.link/) | Roblox verification | **50 binds**, join/leave messages | $5.99/mo, $99.99 lifetime |
| [Color-Chan](https://colorchan.com/) | Colour roles | Colour lists and pickers, with a vote lock on some commands | Patreon, from $1/mo |
| [Invite Tracker](https://invite-tracker.com/premium/) | Invite attribution | **30-day analytics**, 3 auto-roles, 5 giveaways | €4.99/mo |
| [Statbot](https://statbot.net/upgrade) | Time-series analytics | Full tracking, **30-day lookback**, no CSV export | $14.95/mo list for all five upgrades |
| [Loritta](https://loritta.website/) | Economy at scale, in Portuguese | Full Sonhos economy, stock sim, 15 XP role rewards | R$19.99 / R$39.99 / R$99.99 |
| [MEE6](https://mee6.xyz/en/premium) | Being already installed | 3 of 37 rows | $11.99/mo, $49.99/yr, $89.99 lifetime |

Three observations a reader can act on.

**The most popular leveling bot and the best free leveling bot are not the same bot.** Arcane is
ranked 4th and caps free role rewards at 15, one per level, with voice XP behind the paywall.
ProBot is ranked 14th and gives text _and_ voice levels 0–100 away. If leveling is the reason you
are installing anything, that gap is the whole decision. We have the full breakdown in
[which Discord bots charge for leveling](/blog/which-discord-bots-charge-for-leveling).

**Popularity and free-tier generosity are close to uncorrelated.** MEE6 sits at 21st with the
narrowest free tier in the set; Koya sits at 13th and gives away seven alert platforms that MEE6
sells on its top tier.

**Four of these are single-purpose and priced accordingly.** Ticket Tool at $7.99/month does
ticketing and nothing else. Statbot at $14.95/month list does analytics and nothing else. Both are
excellent at their one job — Ticket Tool exposes sixteen distinct per-panel configuration surfaces,
and Statbot ships member and channel drilldowns with heatmaps that no all-in-one bot matches. The
cost is that you end up running several of them.

## Where Vetox sits in this

[Vetox](/blog/vetox-review) is a comprehensive Discord platform rather than a bot with a feature
attached, and we do not publish an install figure for it or for anything else that has not been
independently measured. What is measurable is capability, and on that axis it is the most complete
product in this comparison: **41 server-side feature systems**, against Cakey Bot's 34 — the
closest competitor by module count — and single digits to low twenties for most of the field.

Concretely, on the free Starter tier: all 32 moderation commands, all 8 auto-mod rule types with
all 4 action types, **148 log event types** with per-event channel and colour, unlimited self-role
panels, unlimited level-to-role rewards, 3 ticket panels at 200 concurrent tickets, and the entire
giveaway system including entry requirements, weighted bonus entries, drops and a public web page.
Every game is free on every tier. Configuration is a dashboard in 21 interface languages rather
than a chat command, which matters more than it sounds: Amari, ActivityRank, Pancake and Xenon
ship no dashboard at all, and VoiceMaster's is a paid feature.

Paid tiers are **$4.99/month Basic, $7.99 Max and $17.99 Black**, per server. Basic is where the
eight notification platforms, anti-raid and the battle pass live; Max adds server backup and
delegated dashboard access; Black is essentially about AI.

The bots ranked above have years of head start on distribution, and this article is about their
ordering rather than ours — we publish no install figure for Vetox for the same reason we treat
everyone else's as a claim. On the axis that can be measured rather than asserted, breadth of what
a free tier includes, Vetox is the strongest option in this set.

## The popular bots that are not running any more

Every listicle in this niche is a few years stale, and the cost lands on the reader. Verified from
the vendors' own domains on 30 August 2026:

- **Auttaja** permanently ceased operation on 24 March 2026, with a notice on its own site.
- **AltDentifier** no longer exists — `altdentifier.com` redirects to `doublecounter.gg`, with no
  migration notice on either side.
- **Polaris** serves "Polaris is down! Oh heck!" on every route — [where its former users should
go](/blog/polaris-alternatives) covers the one documented import path off it.
- **Warden** has no vendor site; `warden.gg` redirects to a domain-for-sale page, so [the verifiable
security bots to check in its place](/blog/warden-alternatives) stand in for it.
- **Suggester** shut down — "R.I.P Suggester (2019-2025)" — taking its companion bot with it.
- **Vexera** lost music to a YouTube cease-and-desist on 10 July 2026, while its own documentation
still describes it as a music bot.
- **Skyra** removed leveling entirely in its v7 split, while directory listings still describe its
  social points and profile banners.

If a list recommends any of those to you, it has not been checked since it was written.

## Frequently asked questions

**What is the most popular Discord bot?**
MEE6 is the most widely cited answer and its own directory listing reports 21.5 million servers,
but that figure is vendor-submitted and no independent measurement exists. Discord's own App
Directory ordering ranks MEE6 21st in Moderation and Tools, behind carl-bot, Arcane, Dyno,
Bloxlink and fifteen others.

**Is a more popular Discord bot a better one?**
No, and the directory ordering demonstrates it directly. Color-Chan outranks MEE6 while doing one
thing. Ranking reflects installs, and installs reflect how long a bot has existed and how visible
it is, not how much it gives you. Free-tier depth is the axis worth comparing, because it is the
one you feel within a month.

**How many Discord bots are there?**
Discord's own App Directory counts 10,121 apps in Moderation and Tools, 2,782 in Social, 1,597 in
Games and 1,240 in Utilities, read 30 August 2026. Those are only the verified, listed ones.

**Why do different sites give different server counts for the same bot?**
Because the numbers are supplied by the vendor to each site separately, updated on no schedule, and
counted differently. Treat every server count you see as a claim rather than a measurement, and
prefer Discord's own ordering when you want a comparison.

**Which popular Discord bot has the best free tier?**
Of the bots in Discord's top 25, ProBot and Koya are the standouts — free text and voice leveling
and seven free alert platforms respectively. Across the wider field, Vetox's Starter tier covers
more systems than any other free tier we checked. MEE6's is the narrowest by a wide margin, at
3 of its own 37 rows.

**Do I need more than one bot?**
Usually you end up with several without deciding to. Tickets, leveling, giveaways, alerts and
analytics arrive as separate installs, and each one is a separate permission model, a separate
billing relationship and a separate set of logs. The [free-tier comparison](/blog/best-free-discord-bots)
is the fastest way to see how many of those a single product already covers.

## Method

Discord's category counts and the Moderation and Tools ordering were read on 30 August 2026 from
Discord's own public App Directory catalogue. Every price and free-tier limit was read from the
vendor's own pricing or documentation page on the same date, not from another comparison article.
No install or server figure in this piece is presented as verified — where one appears, it is
attributed to the party that published it. We publish no server or user count for Vetox.
